Shorter days, less energy? Here’s how to support your cells in autumn

2. Stay socially active, even when it gets dark earlier
As the days get shorter and colder, we more easily stay home in the evening. As a result, social moments can quietly decrease. Yet contact with others is an important part of vitality. So don’t wait for a social moment to happen on its own, but plan it intentionally. For example, arrange a weekly walk, cooking session, or coffee together.

An early afternoon slump can tempt you to have an extra cup of coffee. Caffeine provides a temporary feeling of alertness, but can remain active for hours and therefore affect your sleep quality.
First determine what time you want to go to bed and count back at least six hours from that moment. That is a practical guideline for your last coffee. Do keep your personal sensitivity in mind: some people still feel an effect after six hours.
Good sleep supports the processes through which your body and brain recover. Within longevity, it is therefore smarter to protect your sleep than to keep suppressing fatigue with caffeine.
